Description
English:

A stone retaining wall with a low archway and a section of wood.

By 1840, Harpers Ferry had established itself as one of the few industrial centers of the American South. During the historic period, the number of buildings and structures on the landscape increased in response to the need for arms manufacturing, then decreased due to the destruction caused by the Civil War. The sturdy buildings of the Musket Factory were built on mortared stone foundations.
