Summary[edit]

Description
English: A native bikini outrigger is swung aboard the U.S. Navy tank landing ship LST-1108 at Bikini Atoll, in March 1946. The indigenous population of Bikini Atoll was relocated by U.S. authorities to Rongerik Atoll from 7 March 1946 through 14 March while the United States government conducted the "Operation Crossroads" nuclear tests. After months of food shortages and malnutrition, they were moved first to Kwajalein and finally to Kili Island. On 1 March 1954, Rongerik was exposed to radioactive fallout as a result of the detonation of "Operation Castle Bravo".
