В коллекции представлены фотографии различной тематики. В ней отображены достижения Бразилии и бразильцев в XIX веке, в нее также включены многочисленные фотографии из Европы, Африки и Северной Америки. В 1868 году фотограф Аугусту Ридель сопровождал зятя императора Педру II, Луиса Аугусту, герцога Саксонского, в ходе экспедиции по внутренним регионам Бразилии. Во время посещения города Морро-Велью в провинции Минас-Жерайс члены экспедиции наблюдали исполнение танца конга во время афро-бразильского фестиваля, в котором переплелись католические традиции и религиозные традиции коренных жителей Африки. В празднование входит церемония коронации "короля Конго" и поклонение Богоматери Розария.

Cette collection couvre une vaste gamme de sujets. Elle documente les réalisations du Brésil et du peuple brésilien au 19e siècle, et comprend également de nombreuses photographies d'Europe, d'Afrique et d'Amérique du nord. En 1868, le photographe Augusto Riedel a accompagné Luis Augusto, duc de Saxe, gendre de l'empereur Pedro II, lors d'une expédition dans l'intérieur du Brésil. Lors d'une visite à la ville de Morro Velho, dans le Minas Gerais, le groupe a assisté à une Congada, un festival afro-brésilien qui mélange les traditions religieuses catholiques et celles des indigènes d'origine africaine. The collection covers a wide variety of subjects. It documents the achievements of Brazil and Brazilians in the 19th century and also includes many photographs of Europe, Africa, and North America. In 1868, photographer Augusto Riedel accompanied Luis Augusto, Duke of Saxe, son-in-law of Emperor Pedro II, on an expedition into the interior of Brazil. During a visit to the Minas Gerais town of Morro Velho, the group witnessed a Congado, an Afro-Brazilian festival performance that mixes Catholic and native African religious traditions. The celebration features the crowning of the “King of the Congo” and also pays homage to Our Lady of the Rosary.
