Title
Neolithic flint borer
Description
English: A flint tool, a borer probably dating from the Neolithic period. The tool is basically rectangular in plan with a triangular pointed projection in the centre of one long side (the distal end). There is cortex remaining on the right side of the proximal end. This makes it tool formed on a secondary flake. The borer is 55.45mm long x 34.63mm wide x 20.80mm thick. The width is reduced to 16.44mm half way down the length due to retouching to form the pointed projection, and there is more steep retouching at its point. This point would have been used to bore holes like a modern awl. It weighs 30.21g and has a glassy dark grey hue, with patches of white. There is slight patina. A similar example can be seen on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database as record number: WILT-3924E7.
