Title
Neolithic flint leaf shaped arrow head
Description
English: A flint leaf shaped arrowhead which is 45.1mm long, 20.5mm wide and 5.7mm thick. The flint is mottled mid grey. The arrowhead has semi-invasive retouch on all but one edge and is a kite shaped partially-flaked arrowhead (Butler, 2005, "Prehistoric Flintwork", page 123) dating from the Early or middle Neolithic. The ventral face is only retouched at one side of the tip. The dorsal face is neatly flaked with a facet on each side and a central flake removed from the proximal end creating a pleasing symmetrical design. There is semi-invasive retouch on all edges except the centre of the left side. Partially flaked arrow heads could be quickly made and mass-produced for hunting and warfare. There is no definite evidence to suggest that they continued in use after the middle Neolithic (Butler, 2005, 125).
