| Description | A Class 150 Sprinter unit passes over the level crossing just to the west of Lingwood station on Chapel Road, some time during the late 1990s. Privatisation of the railways was in its infancy, and the train - though now operated by Anglia Railways, still carried its Regional Railways livery - which I always thought suited these trains. I remember being slightly surprised that the horse was stood so close to the crossing, and yet showed no concern or alarm at the noise and movement of the train. Perhaps this was why I was standing well back from the crossing. The next crossing to the east of Chapel Road was in the news in late 2014 when a Rail Head Treatment Train struck the gates when they were open to rail traffic. www.edp24.co.uk/news/train_crash_at_lingwood_station_1_38... |
