| Description | Spooner Meadow, shown Aug. 18, 2014 was in heavy use during the Nevada Comstock Lode silver rush in the late 1800s. Two long irrigation trenches were cut to allow ranchers control of the water from North Canyon Creek and into Spooner Lake. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District is working with the state of Nevada to return the water flow to its original path and to reduce erosion from a nearby heavy-use recreation road. The Corps has been working on ecosystem restoration projects with several different agencies in the Lake Tahoe Basin since 2005. (U.S. Army photo by Luke Burns/Released) |
