Summary[edit]
DescriptionNovaya Zemlya (MODIS 2020-05-27).jpg |
English: The waters off of Novaya Zemlya remained mostly covered in ice or shrouded by cloud in late May 2020. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image of the scene on Mary 26.
The long glacier-covered crescent of Novaya Zemlya makes up an Arctic archipelago separating the Barents Sea (west) and Kara Sea (east) off the coast of Russia. The crescent is made up of two major islands, Severny in the north and Yuzhny in the south. They are separated by a narrow strait, the Matochkin Shar and surrounded by several smaller isles. |
