Summary

[edit]
Description
English: LIQUID WASTES ARE PUMPED TO THE EVAPORATOR FROM THE UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANKS. THE WASTE IS HEATED IN THE REBOILER BEFORE ENTERING THE EVAPORATOR VESSEL WHERE THE WATER BOILS OFF IN A VACUUM ATMOSPHERE TO LEAVE A HIGHLY CONCENTRATED LIQUID CONTAINING SOLID CHEMICAL SALT CRYSTALS. EVAPORATED WATER IS CONDENSED, PROCESSED TO REMOVE CONTAMINATION (TO DRINKING WATER STANDARDS), THEN DISCHARGED TO AN UNDER- GROUND CRIB. THE RESIDUAL RADIOACTIVE MIXTURE OF SALT CRYSTALS AND LIQUID (A SLURRY) IS PUMPED FROM THE EVAPORATOR BACK INTO A STORAGE TANK WHERE THE SALT CRYSTALS SETTLE TO THE BOTTOM. REMAINING LIQUID IS RETURNED FOR FURTHER EVAPORATION.
