Summary

[edit]
Description The main piers of the Oakland Bridge, seen in this August 2020 photo, are located near each bank of Calapooya Creek. During a flood, the foundation of the eastern pier (left) is at risk for scour, which could weaken it. Scour is the most common reason for bridge failure in the United States. The Oregon Department of Transportation is working with Douglas County on plans to replace the original 1925 bridge with a new structure.
