Notes Part of the Charles Ramsden Collection of Signed Bindings. The Barthélémy-Léopold Deflinne (son and nephew),workshop established in the 18c dominated trade from 1800-1850. Deflinne was born on November 21 1791, he 1813 -1845. His bindings, first signed "DEFLINNE SERRE", (from the name of Aldegonde Serre, his wife since 1813), then from 1824-1830 "DEFLINNE R(elieur) DU ROI", when he bound for the King of Holland. For other examples see Baron St. Anna (Bruxelles sale, 16.V.1925, n. 203); collection Louis Paris (Bruxelles sale, 19.x.1934, n. 135); oriental influenced example is found on Zeldzaamhelden, verzameld en uitgeg. Door Joan. D'Huyvetter, Gent, 1829, in-folio, made for William, King of the Netherlands, kept in La Haye Royal Library (J. S. van Leeuwen, Vorsteliijke boekbanden, n.109, pl. 5).
