Notes Part of the Charles Ramsden Collection of Signed Bindings. Macchi states; first half century, Besançon(?), bound by Noel. Examples of his work are illustrated in the Schiff's collection (S. de Ricci, French signed bindings, III, 224-225). He worked about 1803-1805 and possibly considerably later, as Lesne evidently considered him as a contemporary about 1820 (C. Ramsden, French Bookbinders, p. 147).
