Description
Türkçe: M.Ö. 78’de Roma komutanı Servilius Isauricus Olympos’u korsanlardan temizleyerek şehri Roma topraklarına katmış ve kent Roma dönemi öncesinde de bilinen tabii gazların yandığı Çıralı’daki Demirci tanrı Hephaistos kültü için inşa edilen açık hava sunaklarıyla da büyük bir ün sahibi olmuştur. Orta Çağın başlarında, M.S. 4., 5. yy yazılı kaynaklarından hıristiyanlaşan Olympos’un ilk piskoposlarına dair bilgi alınsa da kentin 7. yy’dan sonrası şimdilik karanlıktır. Kentte M.S 5. yy ile 7. yy arasına tarihlenebilecek 12 adet Bizans Kilisesi yer almaktadır ki, bu da Hıristiyanlığın ilk yıllarında Olympos’un önemli bir kent olduğunu göstermektedir.
