Notes Remnants of 1 pair of clasps. ?French binding. Macchi states; first quarter century, France, bound by Iehan Norvis (R. Devauchelle, La reliure en France de ses origines à nos jours, pl. XX; Gumuchian Libraire, Paris, Catalogue XII, Belles reliures du XVe au XIXe siècle, p. 10, n 14, pl. XI on Testamenti novi totiae aeditio longe optima et accuratissima, Lutetiae, Conrad Resch, no date). Upper cover represents S. Michael defeating Satan; lower cover Bathsheba in the bath (101x56 mm). Rare specimen. According to this catalogue, L. Gruel, Manuel, 1905, p. 122, describes and reproduces a specimen covering the same work. W. H. Weale (Bookbindings and rubbings vol. II (Catalogue), also describes a copy, the name of which he misread (p. 517-518). E. Ph. Goldschmidt (E. Ph. Goldschmidt, Gothic and Renaissance bookbindings, p. 130) also describes and reproduces a specimen of these panels on a small in-12 published in Paris by Pierre Vidoue in 1523. There are therefore 4 copies known, all on copies published by Pierre Vidoue in 1523. Not found in D. Gid- M. -P. Laffitte, Les reliures à plaques françaises.
