| Description | This tunnel has a connection to the station of the mine train in the base level, 1.7 km deep in the mountain. The army took advantage of this fact in the seventies. The road to this entrance was secured with concrete barriers. Remains of which are still recognizable. In the tunnels, stainless arrows were fixed with putty to the walls as signposts. The army wanted to move troops through the mountain from Oberschan area to Sargans. That would have been a bypassing of the fortresses Schollberg in combat. This dispositive was quit when the fortresses were abandoned. This tunnel is also named as military escape tunnel. The big gate was closed from the mine because it was broken a couple of times, and then replaced by this smaller door. The current hatch is not from the time of the army. At the openings you can feel a strong, cold air flow. This place is not easy to find, because the last part of the road to the entrance can only be found on the maps of the cantonal surveying.
