Summary[edit]

Description Derbyshire Street, Bethnal Green. Designed by Sir Arthur Blomfield and completed 1890-2, and extended in 1894. It was founded by staff and students at Keble and New Colleges as a rival to the Universities Settlement at Toynbee Hall in Whitechapel which was felt to be too secular in its outlook. It ran volunteer programmes providing help and assistance to the poor and dispossessed of the surrounding area through a variety of activities including Boys clubs. It continues to run Community Health projects, Pensioners clubs, Youth work and Art workshops today.
