Summary

[edit]
Description

German WW2 era light tank with the official designation Sd.Kfz 123 Panzerkampfwagen II Ausf. L Designed as a light reconnaissance tank, the Luchs had a crew of four but was armed only with a 2cm KwK 38 L/55 autocannon and a single machine gun. Only 100 were built out of the 800 ordered, as the MAN factory was prioritising production of the Panther. Entering service in late 1942, they saw action during Operation Citadel and in Normandy, remaining in use until the end of the war. This is one of only two surviving examples and has the chassis No 200164. It was recovered from a scrapyard in Trun, Normandy, and has been restored to running condition. It is seen on display in the ‘Germany 1934-1945’ hall. Musée des Blindés, Saumur, Pays de la Loire, France
