Description

O Parque das Termas localiza-se no centro da cidade, mais precisamente na freguesia de S. João.

Foi criado entre 1884 e 1886 pelo horticultor portuense José Marques Loureiro, proprietário do Horto das Virtudes, e pelo jardineiro-paisagista Jerónimo Monteiro da Costa, autor dos jardins de Arca d'Água, do Carregal e de outros históricos jardins do Porto.

O Parque apresenta sinais de degradação, e as poluídas águas do rio Vizela não ajudam, mas as árvores que Marques Loureiro plantou atingiram um desenvolvimento luxuriante, emprestando ao local uma imponência e solenidade únicas.

Não se conhece em Portugal nenhum outro parque ou jardim com tal concentração de árvores gigantescas.
