Title
Pavillon des forêts
Le panorama de la combe de Péguerre
Description
This print represents the Pavilion des forêts, which was a building entirely made of wood, and dedicated to France's fauna and flora. The insert picture on the right shows one of the three dioramas that were exhibited inside the building (the title of the print refers to it as a panorama, but since it was not circular, it was in fact a diorama. The article accompanying the print corrects that mistake). The diorama was a device invented by Daguerre, which consisted in displaying a very large painting that would be presented with various light and sound effects. The show would have lasted about 10 minutes. This diorama represents the mountains near Cauterets, and illustrates the work that was done there to prevent the rocks from collapsing on the town.

This work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 70 years or fewer.

You must also include a United States public domain tag to indicate why this work is in the public domain in the United States. Note that a few countries have copyright terms longer than 70 years: Mexico has 100 years, Jamaica has 95 years, Colombia has 80 years, and Guatemala and Samoa have 75 years. This image may not be in the public domain in these countries, which moreover do not implement the rule of the shorter term.
