| Transcript | Peel Castle from the Sands. Peel Castle stands on a small island connected with the mainland by a quay extension. It has often been used as a state prison. Richard II. imprisioned the Earl of Warwick here, and later the Duchess of Gloucester was here in durance vile for practicing witchcraft on Henry VI. and (vide Shakespeare) sneering at Margaret of Anjou's troubadour father. |
