Summary[edit]

Description

This is the dining hall at Peel House, Regency Street, S.W.1. circa 1930. The postcard was sent to a Mrs Taylor in Rochester, Kent, by her son George who was a recruit at Peel House in 1931. The postcards were published by T.H. Everitt, The Studio, 63, Anerley Road, Upper Norwood, S.E.19. Mr. Tom Howard Everitt started to work for the Metropolitan Police in 1913 after some Police training was undertaken at Crystal Palace, Mr. Everitt had been employed previously by the Royal Navy who also trained personnel there and also used him as their official photographer. It is likely that either he or his son Alec took this series of photographs which I think were only available at Peel House. The last Everitt employed to take photographs for the Metropolitan Police was John Everitt who retired in 2010 thus ending a 97 year connection between the Everitt family and the Metropolitan Police. Class and training photographs are still produced by the Everitt Company but by a non-family member who is a former Police Officer. In 1972 negatives and records of class photographs were destroyed in a flood, so only negatives and records from 1972 survive. See links. flic.kr/p/yqwB85
