| Description |
Français : La Place de Mesdames se situe à l'arrière du Palais abbatial. Son nom fait référence aux Chanoinesses, dames et demoiselles issues de la haute Noblesse d'Europe. Ces religieuses qui n'avaient pas fait voeu de chasteté ni de pauvreté, ont assuré la sécurité (justice) et la prospérité de la ville, jusqu'au 18ème siècle. Leur puissance s'est altérée brutalement avec la Révolution française et l'abolition des privilèges.
English: This Place is located behind the abbot's palace. Its name refers to Chanoinesses, ladies and girls from the high nobility of Europe. These nuns who had not vow of chastity or poverty, provided security (justice) and prosperity of the city, until the 18th century. Their power is abruptly altered with the French Revolution and the abolition of privileges . |
