| Description |
English: A sketch of the planned Fort St-Louis at Karikal ("Karrei-Kâl"), viewed in profile. There is an annotation by François Dupleix, who had been named governor-general of the French East India Company's settlements in India in 1742, the year that sketch was drawn. The French, who had been trading at Karikal, since the late 17th century had acquired the town and area in 1738. |
