English: Plate, commemorative, Queen Victoria and Empress Golden Jubilee (50 yrs) June 1887- Jubilee Year 1887 Ceramic octagonal plate, commemorating the 1887 Jubilee year (50th anniversary) of the reign of Queen Victoria over the British Empire. Features hemispheric map of the world with British Empire holdings shaded. Each corner is decorated with the coat of arms of one of the four major imperial holdings- Canada, India, Cape Colony, and Australia. The central illustration depicts an allegorical figure of a female Britain shown with adoring subjects of various parts of the world in native dress, along with views of "Australians in the Soudan" and "Canadian voyageurs on the Nile." It is flanked by portraits of Queen Victoria and the Prince of Wales, adorned with floral and fruit decoration. The motto "The Empire on Which the Sun Never Sets" encircles a clock in the central roundel, which lists cities throughout the empire and their time zone relation with England. Statistics advertising the great size of the empire are printed on the plate - the total population (305,347,924), total area (9,101,699 square miles), 1885 imports (390,018,569 pounds sterling) and exports (295,967,583 pounds sterling). Also appearing are the mottos "Ubi virtus ibi Victoria" and "Dieu et mon droit." Commemorative Souvenir Plate, Victoria Queen and Empress.
