Notes cockade and holder (for Busby) - Battery Sergeant - New Zealand Garrison Artillery Volunteers (1890s-1900s) Belonged to Battery Sergeant Lewis George Sheppard Lewis George Sheppard was born in Auckland in 1878. He joined No.2 (Ponsonby) Company NZ Garrison Artillery Volunteers and attained the non-commissioned rank of Battery Sergeant Major. His gold star sleeve badge indicates a period of at least nine years’ efficient service in the volunteers. He died near Gisborne in 1973 aged 94.
