PLEASE, NO invitations or self promotions, THEY WILL BE DELETED. My photos are FREE to use, just give me credit and it would be nice if you let me know, thanks. The Warsaw Uprising of 1944 ended tragically. The monument is in two parts; one part showing the insurgents defending a barricade and the second showing soldiers and others escaping down a manhole into the sewers, a reference to the 2,000 fighters who disappeared down a single manhole on September 2nd 1944. The Warsaw Uprising against the German-Nazi occupiers is one of Poland's most famous battles. Over 225,000 civilians (as well as 20,000 soldiers) lost their lives in a battle that lasted for 63 days. |
