Toelichting
Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet (1627-1704) was een veelzijdig man: bisschop, beroemd kanselier en polemist en een invloedrijk kerkelijk politicus onder Lodewijk XIV. Hyacinthe Rigaud schilderde in 1702 zijn portret als bisschop in vol ornaat. Het portret van Drevet, spiegelbeeldig aan het schilderij, wordt beschouwd als meesterwerk van de graveur, die in 1729 tot 'graveur du roi' werd benoemd.
