Post-Medieval (Georgian) Shoe Buckle |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy post-medieval (Georgian) sub-rectangular shoe buckle with rounded ends and a drilled frame for a separate spindle. The loop chape is broken although would have had two internal spikes and the pitchfork tongue is present.
Shoe buckles increased in size after 1720 and after 1770 the fixing arrangements became more elaborate with a double looped chape, therefore it is probable that this example dates between 1720 and 1770. |
