Title
Post-Medieval bodkin
Description
English: an incomplete Post-Medieval silver bodkin. It is rectangular, with a knop at one terminal below which is an eyelet 2.6mm in diameter. The shaft is plain with slight shoulders and two transverse incised lines just above the central longitudinal opening. The rest of the shaft is missing due to old breaks. The two 'arms' either side of the opening have traces of hatched decoration on both sides and are 1.5mm in width.

Bodkins of this type are likely to date to the seventeenth century. A complete bodkin of similar size and design, though with more decoration, is illustrated in the Treasure Annual Report 2003 (2003T51) fig.228
