Title
Post-medieval Ottoman silver coin
Description
English: Paul Cannon kindly comments:

A silver Ottoman coin (probably a 'para') of Ahmed III (AH 1115-1143; equivalent to AD 1703-1730). It cannot relate to the previous Sultan Mustafa II for several reasons. In common with most Ottoman coins the dates they bear are usually the accession date of the sultan, ie the date he came to the throne. The face with the date translates as "(struck) in Islambol 1115". To the left of the date is a single Arabic letter which is probably a 'mim', one of numerous initial marks used. Islambol is one of the various names for Istanbul. Islambol was used for the very first time as a mint name on coins by Ahmed III in AD 1703. This coin cannot therefore pre-date his reign.
