Title
Post-medieval cast spherical bell
Description
English: A complete post-medieval (c.1580-1820) cast copper-alloy crotal bell. It comprises two hemispherical domes divided horizontally by a circumferential ridge. The top hemisphere is plain and undecorated but the lower half has indistinct incised petals. These petals surround two incised half-circles set side-by-side, to each side of the central sound aperture, a long slot which terminates in a round hole at each end. The upper hemisphere has two circular sound holes, one either side of the cast integral loop, which is rounded and projects from the top of the upper dome. The iron clapper is insitu. The external decoration is corroded and poorly defined throughout.

Diameter:36.13mm, height:45.12mm, weight: 56g.

Bailey's Detector Finds Revised (3rd edition) illustrates a similar bell on page 38, illustration 6.
