Title
Post-medieval figurine of Mary and Jesus (front)
Description
English: Cast copper alloy figurine of the Virgin Mary, draped and hooded, holding the baby Jesus against her right shoulder, standing on a platform with a cylindrical tang below, probably so that it could be set into the end of the stem of a spoon as a knop, or as a finial for a larger implement or item of furniture. The style of the figure suggests that it dates from the 17th to the 18th century, but if it was attached to a copper alloy spoon, it is more likely to be 17th century in date.
