Title
Post-medieval seal matrix: Seal matrix
Description
English: A silver or white metal fob seal dating to the post-medieval period. The seal has an oval face onto which is engraved a garnished oval shield bearing an anchor and rope. At the top of the shield is a face with a plume above and scrolling either side. Such designs using the anchor and rope have been connected to the Royal Navy. The handle of the fob seal is of elaborate openwork, again with scrolled elements. At the apex is a loop for suspension or attachment. This type of seal, with the scrollwork, would date to the later Georgian period, generally the mid 18th or early 19th century AD.
