Title
Post Medieval buckle chape
Description
English: A Post Medieval, cast, copper-alloy loop chape and pin from a two-piece shoe buckle. The frame of the chape is "cooking pot" shaped with a single, internal spike on the widest side. The narrower side has a scalloped internal edge whilst the outer edge is thickened and drilled to accept a steel spindle. This is now corroded away and only iron corrosion stains remain. The centre of the drilled side is notched to accept the pin. The cast, copper-alloy pin is triangular in plan and sub-oval in section. The widest point is drilled to acccept the steel spindle. There are traces of tinning over all surfaces, including the pin.
