Post Medieval cast copper alloy ‘cooking pot’ loop-chape shoe buckle with an internal spike |
||
Description |
English: A Post Medieval cast copper alloy ‘cooking pot’ loop-chape shoe buckle with an internal spike. The buckle is complete apart from missing the tip of the pin, which survives half way along the bar. The ‘cooking pot’ extends from the bar at a slight recess and extends outwards in a curve to complete the pot shape. The single internal spike to fasten the buckle remains intact. The chape has a light olive-green patina. It is 35.1mm long, 29.7mm wide and is a maximum of 3.0mm thick; it weighs 4.87 grams. Whitehead (2003) illustrates a similar example, p. 96, ref. VI, and dates it to between 1690-1720. |
