Title
Post Medieval cufflink
Description
English: A Post Medieval lead tin alloy and glass cufflink dating late17th - mid 18th century. This cuff link is discoidal with a concave front and convex back. There is an inset, faceted, clear glass stone set within the lead alloy cuff link. The lead alloy section has been decoratively cast with a beaded rim and two linear grooves below. The shank has been cast integrally with the back of the cuff link; there is a break across the loop for attachment. The link and other fastener which would comprise this cufflink are missing.

Read (2005:99) illustrates two very similar examples nos. 391 and 392 although they have vary in the colour of the glass the construction and decoration is the same. Read suggests a date range of late 17th - mid 18th century and notes examples are also known in silver and gold. A similar example is also recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database LON-CD52E3, BERK-2208E3.

Dimensions: thickness: 10.28mm; diameter: 11.12mm; weight: 1.50g.
