Post Medieval pipe tamper
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy pipe tamper dating to the Post Medieval period, circa AD1600-1800. The tamper takes the form of a hammer head with two complete prongs forming a claw. There is a square hole in the head where the shaft would have fitted. The opposing end of the end is cone-shaped with a rounded terminal. The tamper has surface scratches and is covered in a light green patina. A similar pipe tamper is recorded under reference SUSS-F40944. Length: 48.70mm. Width :9.39mm. Thickness: 6.5mm. Weight: 13.7g.
