Title
Post medieval lead square and flat possible teaching aid
Description
English: A cast lead sheet, sub-rectangular in shape, with the incuse letters H I stamped in it. There may have been several other panels that together made up the entire alphabet, forming a 'hornbook' of post-medieval date. Full-size hornbooks were used as teaching aids, but it seems likely that small lead versions were toys (Lewis 2012, 98-101). They are, however, normally made in one piece and with relief lettering.
