Title
Post medieval weight
Description
English: A lead alloy weight with the remains of an iron suspension loop. The weight is sub rectangular in section and shaped like a pyramid. The iron stub of the loop is at the apex. There are some holes and dents in the sides, and the base is slightly concave. It weighs 15.59oz so was intended to be a 1lb weight. The slight patina suggests a late date, probably in the 18th or 19th century. The weight has also been compared to Roman steelyard weights, but it is atypical in shape and patination.
