Français : François-Gaston de Lévis (1720-1787), huile sur toile François-Gaston de Lévis arrive en Nouvelle-France en 1756, en qualité de commandant en second des troupes françaises. Il participe aux combats dans la région des Grands-Lacs, puis succède au général Montcalm (1712-1759), mort à la bataille des Plaines d'Abraham, à titre de commandant en chef des troupes françaises. Il repousse les troupes anglaises à l'intérieur des murs de Québec à partir de Sainte-Foy. Il entreprend ensuite le siège de la ville, mais l'arrivée de renforts britanniques l'oblige à se replier vers Montréal où il doit capituler à l'automne de 1760. À son retour en France, il est nommé maréchal de France, puis duc de Lévis. |
