Title |
Postmedieval sub rectangular knee buckle |
||
Description |
English: A postmedieval cast copper-alloy sub-rectangular two-piece buckle. The frame is drilled with two holes to take a separate spindle. There is a concretion around the spindle in the centre, which may be the remains of an iron chape. The frame, which is small and undecorated, is probably a knee buckle. Such buckles were used to fasten breeches during the 18th century. A similar example can be seen in 'Buckles 1250 -1800' p111, number 712, which is dated from AD 1720 to 1790. |
