Summary
[edit]DescriptionPoul F Joensen Memorial Stone in Frodba.jpg |
English: Poul F. Joensen was a Faroese poet and writer. He was born in Sumba, Faroe Islands on 18 November 1898 and died in Tvøroyri on 27 June 1970. He was married to Julia Mortensen from Froðba and they lived their until he died. This memorial stone was raised in 2007 nearby his house in Froðba. The stone is from the fields of Sumba, the village where he was born and raised. Poul F. published his first collection with poems in 1924, Gaman og álvara, which was the second collection of one Faroese poet who wrote in Faroese. The first collection of Faroese poems by one poet was Janus Djurhuus's Yrkingar from 1914. Poul F. wrote beautiful love poems but also poems which were critical to society. He often chocked people by writing things which no other writer dared, i. e. about religion. |
