Pouyannian mimicry and pseudocopulation

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: In Pouyannian mimicry, a flower such as of an Ophrys orchid mimics the female of the pollinating bee species. The male bee attempts to mate with the flower (pseudocopulation), often transferring pollen in the process. The structure of Pouyannian mimicry, involving only two species, may be compared with Batesian mimicry, which is fully disjunct as three separate species take the roles of mimic, model, and dupe.
