Italiano: Pranzo al volo. Greto dello Scrivia (Q55497790), nel comune di Novi Ligure. La foto rappresenta un gruccione comune (Merops apiaster) che, dopo aver catturato una cetonia dorata, (Cetonia aurata) la rigira facendola volare per poterla inghiottire meglio. Questi uccelli nidificano in Europa tra aprile e maggio, per poi svernare nell’Africa subsahariana verso la fine di settembre. I loro nidi sono gallerie che possono raggiungere anche i due metri, scavate nelle rive dei fiumi o comunque in terreni sabbiosi.
English: Lunch on the fly. Greto dello Scrivia (Q55497790), in the municipality of Novi Ligure. The photo represents a common bee-eater (Merops apiaster) which, after having captured a golden cetonia, (Cetonia aurata ) he turns it over, making it fly so he can swallow it better. These birds nest in Europe between April and May, and then winter in sub-Saharan Africa towards the end of September. Their nests are tunnels that can reach up to two meters, dug into the banks of rivers or in sandy soil. |
