English: -------------------
Prawn Geyser (8 August 2018) Geysers are hot springs that episodically erupt columns of water. They occur in few places on Earth. The highest concentration of geysers anywhere is at the Yellowstone Hotspot Volcano in northwestern Wyoming, USA. Prawn Geyser is a small feature in the western Great Fountain Group of Yellowstone’s Lower Geyser Basin. It is a multivent geyser on the northern side of Great Fountain Geyser’s west-flowing runoff channel, apparently located at 44° 32' 10.78" North latitude, 110° 48' 02.86" West longitude. Prawn first manifested in the mid-1980s. It has not been active in recent years. In 2017, Prawn was seen occasionally erupting. In late summer 2018, it began having regular eruptions. On 5 August 2018, Prawn Geyser had ~5 to 7.5 minute long eruptions, with intervals (= eruption start to eruption start) of 14 to 20 minutes. On 8 August 2018, Prawn generally had ~6 to 8 minute long eruptions, with intervals of 16 to 19 minutes. The longest reported eruption was ~18 minutes in duration - this resulted in a 30 minute interval. August 2018 activity included “normal” eruptions, which involved low to moderately-low spraying and splashing from one vent, with no runoff. Some observed activity, here termed “major eruptions”, involved higher, more energetic splashing from four closely-spaced vents, accompanied by high water levels, plus to-the-north overflow (usually). Major eruptions are not longer in duration than normal eruptions. Post-major eruption intervals are just slightly longer than “normal”. Nearby Great Fountain Geyser has fairly large eruptions about twice a day. Runoff from Great Fountain bursts drains into Prawn Geyser’s vent. This prevents Prawn eruptions from occurring. Filmed from the end of the Great Fountain boardwalk. Clip 1 - Prawn Geyser’s 7:08 to 7:16 PM eruption on 8 August 2018. Clips 2-4 - Prawn Geyser’s 7:24 to 7:30 PM major eruption on 8 August 2018. (time stamp 1:18) Clips 5-6 - Prawn Geyser’s 7:43 to 8:01 PM eruption on 8 August 2018. (time stamp 3:30) Clips 7-13 - Prawn Geyser’s 8:13 to 8:29 PM eruption on 8 August 2018. (time stamp 4:00) Clips 14-19 - Prawn Geyser’s 8:30 to 8:35 PM major eruption on 8 August 2018. (time stamp 7:56)
