Probable Roman Zoomorphic Brooch
Description
English: Worn and corroded Roman copper alloy zoomorphic brooch, depicting a raptor attacking a hare. The booch is moulded in relief and hollowed on the reverse with the broken stumps of a double pin lug and transverse catch-plate. Length 39mm. Width 25mm. 4mm thick. See an openwork example of this form of brooch, from Hockwold, Norfolk, in Mackreth 2011, vol. I, P.184, vol. II, p.129, plate 126, no.8045, and two others in Hattatt 2000, 361, fig.220, nos.156 and 1161. Late 2nd-4th century.
