Title
Probably post-medieval ring
Description
English: A ring or ferrule made from interwoven and plaited strands of silver wire. Each plait consists of five or seven individual parellel strands of silver wire, woven to form a diagonal pattern. The object has been flattened and now measures 39.9mm long, 24.3mm wide and 3.4mm thick. It would have formed a cylindrical tube approximately 39.9mm long. The flattened width is 24.3 mm so the diameter would be roughly 13.8 mm. It weighs 4.22g.

There are some similar objects on the database, for example CAMHER-DA6395 and KENT-A512A4

Such objects have been interpreted as decorative ferrules from 16th to 19th Century daggers, or as elements from 19th Century walking canes. There is also a similarity to much older objects such as 9th century plaited rings. The object cannot be securely dated as pre-1716 and therefore falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.
