Italiano: Maschera facciale Je - Maschera antropozoomorfa dalla superficie levigata e lucida; il volto e la punta delle corna sono di colore marrone, mentre tinte in nero sono la testa e la parte zigrinata delle corna. Naso cilindrico lungo e sottile, occhi a fessura con palpebre a semicerchio, bocca piccola e prominente. Il volto è incorniciato dalla linea a zig zag della barba che sotto il mento assume la forma di una proiezione fallica. Ai lati degli occhi scarificazioni lineari. Attaccatura dei capelli marcata da una serie di linee incise sovrapposte che riprendono la curva dell'arcata sopraccigliare e sottolineano la simmetria bilaterale del volto.
La maschere yaure sono legate alle associazioni maschili che danzano in occasione dei funerali. Sono espressioni degli spiriti yu, potenze che mediano fra gli esseri umani e il Dio creatore Bali. L'inserzione di elementi animali (le corna) in un volto umano denota il carattere "sovrannaturale" della manifestazione. Le maschere purificano il villaggio dal disordine introdotto dalla morte di uno dei suoi membri e accompagnano il defunto nell'aldilà. |
