DESCRIPTION "A study of the features from which Keene developed its distinct character cannot conclude without mentioning the impact upon the city made by the railroad, during the mid-19th century, or by the recently created bypass. Historically and visually, the railroad is a part of the character of the city. This method of transportation was eagerly awaited, and its arrival met with excitement. It was essential to the economic expansion of the city and freed its citizens from the confines of the immediate surroundings."
