In 1930, the railway's extension to Nanyuki town marked a pivotal moment, spurring growth and making settlement less of a hardship. Nanyuki earned the endearing nickname "mwisho wa reli" (end of the railway), reflecting the significance of this railway terminus. The long-awaited rehabilitation of the Nairobi-Nanyuki Old Railway Line concluded in 2020, symbolized by the reopening of the Thika-Nairobi section.
